Stop the Mayor's Bad Housing Ordinance

Mayor Johnson's housing affordability plan, his Protecting Renters Ordinance, does nothing to make housing more affordable. 

• It adds fees on apartments.
• It creates over 100 new rules and regulations.
• It creates new fines for any mistakes in complying with those new rules and regulations.
• It creates a brand new City bureaucracy, with new staff, who will create a list of landlords.
• It forces landlords to renew the leases of people who harass and disturb their neighbors, or who engage in criminal activity—or requires them to pay up to $10,000 or ten months rent to get that tenant to move out.

Everything about this adds costs for the housing providers, especially the small local housing providers—most of who live in the community and hire in the community. 

People aren't dumb. They know this will be bad for renters, bad for neighborhood housing and bad for Chicago.

By making it more expensive
To provide housing.
